Live close to Ranbir, Katrina for Rs 15 lakh!
December 5, 2014
While the paparazzi follow Bollywood actors Ranbir and Katrina as they do up their new terrace home on Carter Road, you might be thinking what is special about this area. Property prices in Mumbai have escalated over the year and if the headline makes you feel you could own a house in Carter Road for just Rs 15 lakh, you are wrong! It is just the rent that your favourite celeb couple is paying per month!
Wondering what makes Carter Road so special? This locality in Bandra has properties in the range of Rs 30,000-50,000 per sq ft! That is what you pay to live in a well-to-do gated society. But that is not possible in Mumbai’s Carter Road, which has some of the most fashionable celebrities, café crowd, joggers and walkers, multi-cuisine restaurants along the mangrove trees. If that is not special enough, why would another Bollywood actor Salman Khan have gifted his sister, Arpita, a Rs 16 crore flat here?
If buying is not on your mind, you could look at some of the rental properties in the area. Sunil Kapoor, owner, Sq Feet Realtors says, “If you talk about small budgets, liveable houses within 800 sq ft would cost you Rs 70,000 per month. For a 2BHK, you would have to shell out close to a lakh and if the house has a sea view, values will go up to Rs 2.5 lakh per month.” Isn’t that a good deal considering Ranbir-Katrina have to pay Rs 15 lakh monthly for a penthouse?
Kapoor adds, “Carter Road is one of the prime locations in Mumbai. Well connected to other areas through the Multi Modal Transport Systems (MMTS), the area boasts a cosmopolitan culture. Additionally, there are gardens and parks, with some of them reserved solely for pets.”
Karun Vij, broker at Deals and Homes says, “Most residents consider the locality very safe, as the neighbourhood consists of those who require high security - celebrities, CEOs of corporate offices, established business families as well as expats.”
Shakir Shandiwan, consultant at Bandra Space says, “Buyers compete to live here because finding an ideal property here is difficult. Either the price is high or the amenities are not suited to your lifestyle but on the whole, the locality makes for a high-profile living.”
However, Shandiwan points out that there have been instances of racism where owners do not wish to let-out their houses to a particular community. Government should monitor such practices.
To cater to high-profile residents, Carter Road is now booming with café hangouts, pubs and high street stores. Play schools, fashion, law, management, engineering, architecture, arts and science colleges are also in the vicinity. Bandra is known for its churches as well and therefore, if you are open to architectural beauty, the area is just right for you!
