In an interview with Times Property, Thane Municipal Commissioner, Sanjeev Jaiswal discusses how he plans to give Thane a competitive edge
In the last few years, Thane city has seen an almost turnaround of sorts in terms of infrastructure and an unmatchable spirit of outdoing others with swift and structured development. At the helm of this success story is Thane Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal. Here he speaks exclusively to Times Property on Thane’s growth story.
Pokhran Road 1 and 2 has been one of the biggest works we have undertaken this year (the roads were cleared of any illegal structures) and made available to the public. Also, we widened the roads in Thane, by increasing them from a mere 15 metres to 40 metres to facilitate easy traffic movement within Thane city.
INLAND WATER TRANSPORT (IWT) AWARDED RS 500 CRORE BY CENTRE:
The project will connect Thane to Kalwa-Vasai-Bhiwandi-Mira Road-Bhayander and finally Navi Mumbai; the details are being chalked out and will be a big boost for our residents as they will be provided with other alternative modes of transport.
THE CITY OF LAKES:
We want to reclaim the title of being called as the ‘city of lakes’. After all, there are around 35 lakes out here. And we have already rejuvenated 20 lakh litres and hope to complete the work this year.
12 WATERFRONTS TO BE DEVELOPED INTO SHALLOW WATER PARKS OR JETTIES:
We are in the process of setting up waterfronts within Thane such as Parsik Chowpathy, Balkum and Saketh to name a few. We hope that
this facility, once up and running, will be one of the biggest attractions for everyone and not just limited to Thanekars or Mumbaikars.
METRO CONNECTIVITY:
Thane also stands to be extremely well-connected visa-a-visa the planned Metro works from Thane to Bhiwandi and Kalyan and we are in the talks with the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation about the commercial feasibility of the same.
SETTING UP OF THANE DISASTER RESPONSE FORCE (TDRF):
The TDRF will be modelled after the NDRF and we hope to have our own force, which will jump into action in case of a calamity. The TDRF will be self-sufficient and have all the resources at their disposal just like the NDRF, in order to deal with anything that might come their way.
E-SERVICE FOR DEVELOPERS:
The Thane e-service for real estate developers has been one of the friendliest and heavily used features on our website. Many developers have appreciated the work we have done with e-service as it makes it easier to register with the TMC for any of their businesses
COMMAND AND CONTROL CENTRE FOR SECURITY:
Thane will be brought under complete CCTV surveillance and we already provide free Wi-Fi to Thanekars. We also plan to bring in manpower into the mix with an additional police force of 400 to keep the city safe.
SOFT MOBILITY:
A lot of bicycle tracks and pedestrian walkaways are being set up to provide ease and convenience to citizens. The improvement is already being seen and the fruits of our work today will be realised within the next three to five years and make Thane renowned throughout the world as a city wellequipped to providing a wholesome life to its citizens.
