TMC gets over 1,000 responses to its Cluster Redevelopment Project

June 04, 2018

THANE : Over 10,000 objections and suggestions related to the cluster redevelopment project were reportedly presented at various offices of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) till Monday evening, which was the last date of sending responses before the administration finalised the project.

Serpentine queues were seen outside a few ward offices in the city where residents thronged to submit their opinions since the last several days. Officials said that though the date for accepting the objections ended on Monday, they are likely to accept some inputs over the next two days before they start compiling it by next week.

The administration said it will classify the suggestions and objections received as per the urban renewal plans and then hold a collective briefing with the contributors.

Activists and community members from the Agri and Koli communities said several thousands of families have been sending their opinions since the time the TMC issued the notification. “We have received thousands of response from residents over the cluster redevelopment project. We will now scrutinize each of these suggestions and objections and respond accordingly,” said a senior official from the town planning department.

The official, however, refused to confirm the number of responses received claiming that the accurate number would be made available only by the weekend.

Meanwhile, the opposition to the project by select communities from the city, including Kalwa and Thane, continued as residents claimed they feared they would be given a raw deal. “We are skeptical of the project as there is no clarity on how it will be executed. There has been no proper information given to us either,” said a representative from the Agri-Koli community.
