MahaRERA project data integration to prevent illegal property registrations

April 7 2022

MahaRERA project data will be integrated with that of the Registration Department within two months to check rule violations. The move follows illegal registration of over 10,000 documents in the city and other areas of the state.

“This will be an inbuilt check. With this, registered projects’ MahaRERA number will automatically reflect in the survey number column to enable the citizens and officials to know if a project has been registered with the state real estate authority,” a senior MahaRERA official said on April 6.

Around 34,280 projects are registered with MahaRERA across Maharashtra, showed the authority dashboard. Of these, as many as 9,091 projects are complete.

A meeting between the Property Registration Department and MahaRERA has already taken place on the issue of data integration, sources from the department told TOI.

On April 4 , the State Government had directed the State Inspector General of Registration and Stamps to initiate disciplinary action against 44 officers from various sub-registrar offices for registering over 10,000 documents in violation of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) Act and the Maharashtra Prevention of Fragmentation and Consolidation of Holdings Act.

The state had appointed a four-member squad for checking such documents from all sub-registrar offices in 2020 and a detailed report was submitted last year. The order signed by the squad member and Registration Official Govind Karad stated that 44 officials have been found guilty of illegally registering about 10,561 documents in Pune city.

Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat has said besides the officials from the Registration Department, those involved in the mutation entries too were under the radar.

‘Over 3k documents in Thane violated rules’

Squad Member and Registration Official Govind Karad told TOI that they have scanned documents in Thane and have found 3,300 documents in violation of the RERA rules and the fragmentation act. A total of 22 officials are under the radar in Thane city. The report will be submitted and the order is likely to be issued soon, Karad said. In Aurangabad too, 43 documents have been found in violation of the acts and one officer is under radar. “The documents are being checked and the numbers may go up,” Karad said.
