Jan 17, 2023
The work of Mankhurd-Thane flyover in Chheda Nagar traffic improvement project is in its final stage and the last girder (beam) of this flyover was installed on Monday night. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has started preparations to put this bridge into traffic service from February 15. It is being claimed that if this bridge is open to the public, the problem of traffic congestion in Chheda Nagar will be solved. At the same time, it will be possible for commuters to cover the Mankhurd-Thane distance in just five minutes.
The traffic congestion at Chheda Nagar Junction was a hindrance to the vehicles coming from the Eastern Freeway. Therefore, MMRDA has taken up the 'Chheda Nagar Traffic Improvement Project'. Under this project, three flyovers and one subway are being constructed in Chheda Nagar. The first of these three-lane bridges is 680 meters long and connects Sion and Thane. The second two-lane flyover is 1,235 meters long and will be directly connected to Thane from Mankhurd Road.
The third 638 meter long Cheda Nagar flyover will be connected from Santacruz to Chembur road. INR 249.29 crores are being spent for this. Out of this, the 638 meter long Cheda Nagar flyover was opened for traffic in March 2022. This flyover has been added to the Santacruz to Chembur road project and this bridge is helping to ease traffic congestion in Chheda Nagar. The first phase of the 518 m long and 37.5 m wide subway along with the Chheda Nagar flyover has also been completed and is in service.
Now, the work of Mankhurd to Thane flyover is in its final stage and an important phase of this work was completed on Monday, January 16.
