The deadline for regularisation of unauthorised constructions in Bhiwandi, Ambernath, Kulgaon, Badlapur and Kalyan areas of Mumbai metropolitan area has now been extended till June 30. This decision was approved in the recently held meeting. Along with this, it has also been decided to give a five percent discount on the penalty fee so that more citizens take the initiative in this process.

The problem of unauthorised constructions in the Mumbai metropolitan area had become serious. An attempt was made a few years ago to regularise these constructions. The state government has announced a government decision for this. But after the Nagpur bench reprimanded the government on this, the process was stalled for some time. Again this process of regularisation was started.

According to the resolution passed by MMRDA in the 152nd meeting of the authority on February 22, 2022, proposals for regularisation of unauthorised constructions in Bhiwandi locality notified area Ambernath, Kulgaon-Badlapur and locality notified area as well as Kalyan Growth Center area were to be accepted till December 31, 2022.

Information about the procedure to be followed for the implementation of this policy was also announced. This process was to end on March 31, 2023. However, while submitting the proposal, it came to light that it was not possible for the applicants to submit the proposal within the prescribed period, as the required documents like land records department's count maps, fire department's no objection certificate etc were taking a lot of time. Therefore, for the successful implementation of the policy of regularisation of unauthorised constructions, the proposal to extend the deadline for accepting the proposals in this circular till June 30, 2023 and the deadline for taking action on the received proposals till September 30, 2023 has been approved in the recently held meeting of MMRDA.

This area will be benefited

Almost all cities in Thane district have unauthorised constructions. This number is especially high in Bhiwandi, Ulhasnagar, Kalyan rural, Ambernath rural areas. The case of Ulhasnagar is different. However, constructions elsewhere without permission, irregular construction, violation of fixed mat area, construction beyond the approved construction area are included in this. These constructions are done regularly by accepting fines. It is said that many constructions and godowns in Bhiwandi taluka will benefit greatly from this process.
