Thane Municipal Corporation Issues Guidelines To Prevent Dust Pollution In The City

Dust pollution in Thane city is also increasing due to increasing constructions and number of vehicles. The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has prepared rules to control it. Violators of these rules will be fined.
A review was recently conducted at the Thane Municipal level regarding the implementation of Clean Air Action Plan. In this meeting, Additional Commissioner (2) Sanjay Herwade gave instructions about the compliance of the rules. Also, it has been clarified that for not taking measures to control dust pollution while carrying out various infrastructure works, a fine ranging from INR 5,000 to 25,000 will be imposed.
Developers of Thane city, drivers of RMC plant, road works contractors, representatives of Metro Railway etc. were present in this meeting. Manisha Pradhan, Chief Environment Officer of the Municipal Corporation informed the attendees about the air pollution in Thane. Deputy Commissioner Anagha Kadam said that a vigilance team of the Pollution Control Department will be formed to monitor the pollution control measures.
Construction of the building
- Barricading all around the construction of the building
- Plastering of protective mesh while plastering the building
- Plastic garbage drums must be used to dispose of debris during construction
- Water sprinklers should be used to prevent dust pollution caused by sand, soil and cement
- Using rain guns to reduce street dust in front of building construction
- Trucks should be covered with tarpaulin while transporting construction materials
- Permission should be obtained from the Solid Waste Management Department for demolition waste while constructing the building
RMC Plant
- Water sprinklers should be used to avoid dust pollution.
- Barricading all around the plant
- Concreting of roads under RMC plant
- Trucks should be covered with tarpaulin while transporting demolition materials
- There should be a tire washing facility on two levels at entry and exit points for transit mix vehicles.
Road Contractor/Metro Works
- Using water sprinklers/rain gun sprinklers while digging roads or doing road repair work
- Barricading along the road where work is going on.
- Trucks should be covered with tarpaulin while transporting construction materials
